ELKHART — William H. "Bill" Rollins Jr., 77, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, Jan. 9, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born April 23, 1937, in Yonkers, N.Y., to William H. Rollins Sr. and Nora E. (Acton) Rollins.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Rollins of Elkhart; a daughter, Dana McQuinn of South Portland, Maine; a son, Rhodes Rollins of Richmond, Texas; three stepdaughters, Lori Thomas, Amy (Jon) Stallman and Carrie (Mike) Mohr, all of Elkhart; 13 grandchildren, Sam and Mia Stallman, Sydney, Jacob, Makenzie and Taylor Holt and Bella Mohr, all of Elkhart, Brendan and Adrian Amy and Simon McQuinn, all of South Portland, and Kyndal, Jacob and Kamryn Rollins, all of Richmond.
Bill served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1954 to 1986, when he retired as commanding officer of the U.S. Coast Guard Air Station in Sacramento, Calif. Following retirement from the U.S. Coast Guard, he was employed with Coachman RV in Fort Myers, Fla.
In accordance with wishes, there will be a private memorial service. His cremated remains will be placed in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
