He was born Jan. 30, 1920, in Lark, N.D., to William Tecumseh and Louise C. (Peters) Roberts. His first wife, Evelyn, preceded him in death. He then married Shirley Mattix on May 10, 1991, in Elkhart.
She survives along with two stepsons, Jeffry (Deborah) Moore of Union, Mich., and Stanley of Baton Rouge, La.; three stepdaughters, Melody (Thomas) Overton and Kathleen Stemm, both of Elkhart, and Phyllis Tucker of Vandalia, Mich.; numerous stepgrandchildren; and two sisters, Irene and Lucille Roberts both of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by two stepchildren, Jack and Pat.
Friends may call two hours prior to Thursday's 2 p.m. funeral service at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. The Rev. Mike Quirey of Grace Baptist Church and the Rev. Ron Sherck, a Brethren minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Adamsville Cemetery.
Mr. Roberts retired from Miles Laboratories in 1980 and was formerly employed at Studebaker in South Bend. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church and a U.S. Army World War II veteran. He loved riding and driving horses and provided horses for the annual Bristol Homecoming parade.
