Obituary

Dec. 16, 1943 - Aug. 30, 2011

ELKHART -- William R. "Bill" Thompson, 67, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 16, 1943, in Chicago to John R. Thompson Sr. and Emily M. (Herman) Thompson.

Survivors include three brothers, James "Jim" (Mary) Thompson of Rockford, Ill., John Robert (Crystal) Thompson Jr. of Flandreau, S.D., and Douglas Scott (Carol) Thompson of Anacortes, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, David Thompson.

Bill attended Voice Ministries in Elkhart. This was his home church where he faithfully served in many capacities. He served as an usher and greeter and had helped with the Joseph Storehouse Food Ministry. He was part of prayer teams and spent many hours in the House of Prayer. He loved to worship Jesus and expressed that through the use of worship flags. Bill was always quick to give and to share resources to anyone wanting to learn more about Jesus. He was known to all for his servant's heart and faithfulness.

Bill became very serious about his relationship with Jesus Christ while attending a DeColores (Christian Retreat Weekend) in 1988. He then became an active part of the Southwestern Michigan DeColores Community from that day forward. He served wherever and however needed to help with the DeColores weekends that were held four times a year. He could always be counted on to help from set-up to clean-up as well as ministering and praying for the entire weekend. Some of his nearest and dearest friendships were formed through the DeColores Community. DeColores held a special place in Bill's heart.

One of Bill's greatest passions had to do with God's heart for Israel. He was a student of Biblical understanding of Israel's role yesterday, today and in the days ahead. He loved the Scriptures, teaching, worship music and praying for Israel.

Bill was very loved and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

A memorial service will be at noon Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, at Voice Ministries, 1610 S. Nappanee St., Elkhart, IN 46516. Pastor Stan Dudka will officiate.

Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, has been entrusted with the arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to Voice Ministries.
