Obituary
William M. "Bill" Wain, 80, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Monday, March 27, 2017.
Bill was born July 18, 1936, in Indianapolis.
He married the former Rose M. Gartee on Feb. 8, 1958, in South Bend, creating a loving marriage that spanned more than 59 years.
Rose survives, as well as their 3 children, Rachel Wain and Valerie (David) Clingerman, both of Elkhart; and Michael (Mary) Wain of Bristol; 6 grandchildren, Amy Bohinc, Bradley (Michelle Bontrager, fiancé) Bohinc, Elizabeth Wain, Ashley (Eric) Goolsby, Molly Wain, and Michael T. Wain; great-grandson Damien Jackson, as well as a great-granddaughter and great-grandson on the way.
His parents, Paul and Beatrice Gerber, preceded Bill in death.
Bill proudly worked for State Farm Insurance, as both an agent and agency manager for 37 years.
During his tenure, he appointed more than 18 agents.
Bill was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and a third-degree member of St. Jude Council No. 1043 Knights of Columbus.
He proudly served in the U. S. Marine Corps from 1955 until his honorable discharge in 1958.
Bill loved golfing, traveling and boating, even volunteering as a member of the St. Joseph River Patrol.
However, most important to Bill was spending time with his family.
Friends and family may gather from 4-7 p.m. Friday, March 31, at the Billings Funeral Home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday, April 1, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 1405 N. Main St., Elkhart.
Friends may call one hour prior to Mass.
The Rev. Jason Freiburger will officiate.
Burial and military honors, rendered by the USMC Funeral Honor Detail and DAV Chapter No.19, will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.
