ELKHART — William D. "Bill" Graffis, 86, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at Riverside Village Healthcare Center in Elkhart at 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 7, 2011.
He was born in Elkhart on Dec. 9, 1924, to the late Arthur Martin "Mike" and Kate (Moores) Graffis. He later married Rowena Blubaugh Graffis Hill, his former spouse, who survives him in Edwardsburg, Mich.
Also surviving are nieces and nephews Diane Graffis, Bernie Haskins, James H. (Sheri) Blubaugh III, Kaitlin, Alex and Kimberly Blubaugh and Dennis "Mike" Courier; and brother-in-law James H. Blubaugh.
He is preceded by brothers Arthur Jr. and Harry Graffis.
No services have been scheduled, and cremation has taken place at Altera Cremation Services of Elkhart under the direction of Billings Funeral Home. Because Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II as an infantryman in the South Pacific theatre of operations, his remains will be interred at the Marion National Cemetery in Marion.
Bill was the former owner of Century Mobile Home Corp. and also worked at Lochmandy Motors and Cressy and Everett Real Estate, all of Elkhart.
