ELKHART -- Willard Neal Holt, 68, of 2601 Oakland Ave., died at 6:08 p.m. Sunday (May 11, 2008) in Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 19, 1939, in Truman, Ark., to Ewing L. and Ifa (Freeman) Holt.
Mr. Holt is survived by one son, Phillip N. Holt of Elkhart; one daughter, Sabrina M. Scott of Elkhart; a grandson; six sisters, Carolyn (Terry) Welles of Wakarusa, Doris (Robert) Jewel and Darlene (Thomas) Ronzone, both of Elkhart, Mary (John) Lauder of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Lois Henson of Joplin, Mo., and Geraldine Taylor of Bristol; and two brothers, Lester (Renate) Holt of Orange Park, Fla., and Leamon (Rickie) Holt of Elkhart.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley A. Bieber.
Mr. Holt was an independent truck driver most of his life, but also worked as a car salesman at various used-car dealerships throughout the area. He raced stock cars at the South Bend and New Paris speedways in his early years and was an avid sports fan. NASCAR and Notre Dame football were his favorite sports. He could always be found spending time with his friends and family.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Friday's 1 p.m. funeral service at the funeral home. Anthony Baker will officiate, with burial following in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola.
Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association or the American Lung Association.
