ELKHART — Whitney Rex Ort, 96, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, June 5, 2012, at the Dussia House in Otsego, Mich.
He was born May 19, 1916, to Albert and Alma (Bauer) Ort in Elkhart.
On Nov. 14, 1940, he married his loving wife, Doris E. (Moore) Ort in Elkhart. She preceded him in death Nov. 14, 2008.
Survivors include his daughter, Nancy (Dick) Simmons of Otsego; sons David W. Ort of French Lick and Rick (Hope) Ort of Elkhart; sister Maxine Stump of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd and Chet Ort and a sister, Ruby Cast.
Whitney was employed for more than 30 years at CTS Corp. as a tool and die maker prior to his retirement in 1979. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elkhart for several years.
Whitney enjoyed fishing, camping, golfing, playing card games, square dancing and traveling. He and his family loved spending time at the lake cottage on Harwood Lake in Michigan. Whitney and Doris loved spending the winter in Florida for more than 15 years.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, June 9, 2012, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Stephen Allen will officiate. Entombment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Osceola. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elkhart First United Methodist Church.
