ELKHART — Wayne L. "Pete" Frey, 77, of Elkhart, passed away with his family at his side at his home at noon Thursday, May 31, 2012, after an extended illness.
He was born March 21, 1935, in Marion, Ill., to the late Marshall and Amanda Marie (Kelton) Frey. He later married Linda G. (Holsomback) Dooley in Elkhart on Aug. 31, 1973.
Linda survives at home, along with daughters Melodie "Joy" Frey of Cornville, Ariz., and Mara J. (Jose) Morales of Wabash; son Larry A. (Eva L. "Lori") Dooley of Granger; brothers Charles Frey of Marion, Wesley (Terri) Frey of Arizona and Richard Frey of Magazine, Ark.; sisters Ludean Ellison of Carpendale, Ill., and Wanda (Terry) Martens of Maricopa, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Preceding Pete in death were sisters Evelyn McKinney and Dorothy Anderson; and brothers Clifford, Franklin, Barry, Gary, J.D., Jackie Ray, Kenneth and Douglas, who died within three hours of Wayne.
A celebration of Wayne's life will begin with a viewing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, June 3, 2012, followed by services at 11 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2012, with visitation one hour prior. All services will be held at Billings Funeral Home, Elkhart. Pastor Phil Byars of First Baptist Church of Elkhart and Pastor Marvin D. Yoder, a family member, will officiate. Burial will follow the funeral in Olive West Cemetery of Elkhart.
Wayne retired from Miles (Bayer) Laboratories in 1996 due to health reasons after more than 30 years of service. He was a member of USWA Local 12273, was an avid gardener and an accomplished woodworker. His memory will be cherished by his loving family and he will be greatly missed.
