ELKHART — Vron K. Mishler, 66, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully Dec. 16, at his residence.
He was born April 26, 1950, in Bakersfield, Calif., the son of Vernon R. and Jessie C. (Sutherland) Mishler.
Survivors include two daughters, Angie (Matt) Micinski of Utica, Mich. and Nikki (Todd) Long of Cassopolis, Mich.; one son, Aaron Mishler of Elkhart; two stepdaughters, Linda Berry and Mary Jo (Brandon) Gosser, both of Gas City; three brothers, Mark, Jerry and Richard; 12 grandchildren, Oliver, Devynn, Ashley, Chaicee, Natayla, Zackri, Naomi, Zane, Ian, Chaston, Kailynn and Anson; one great-grandson, Bryson; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Jim Mishler.
Vron served in the U.S. Army from 1967 until 1970 where he served with distinction in both Korea and South Vietnam.
The war was never far from his mind.
He received national attention when he walked across the country in the 1980s and camped in a bamboo cage in the early 90s to protest the normalization of relations with Vietnam.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the 3 p.m. celebration of life service Sunday, Jan. 15, at the VFW Post 88, 1519 W. Bristol St., Elkhart.
Mr. Tommy Black will officiate.
Inurnment of his cremated remains will take place at Marion National Cemetery at a later date.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is entrusted with arrangements.
