She was born Sept. 26, 1919, to Lawrence and Rose (Wort) Stout in Ripley, Ill. She married Kenneth W. Schafer on May 29, 1941. They lived in Morton, Ill. before moving to Decatur, Ill.

He survives along with one son, Roger (Cathy) Schafer of Decatur, Ill.; one daughter, Ronnalee (Mike) Fisher of Elkhart; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one son, Ronald Dean Schafer, and two brothers, Raymond and Allen Stout.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 2 p.m. Tuesday service at Dawson-Wikoff Funeral Home, Colonial Chapel North, 4020 N. Water St., Decatur, Ill. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Tremont, Ill. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with local arrangements.

Virginia graduated from St. Mary's High School in Mt. Sterling, Ill., and Brown Business College in Peoria, Ill. She was employed at Tryco Manufacturing Co. in Decatur, Ill., for many years, and was a member of the Caterpillar Retirees Club with her husband. She was a long-time member of Maroa Bible Church (now Harvest Community Church) and Temple Baptist Church before moving to Elkhart.
