LIGONIER — Virginia M. Field, 98, of Ligonier, formerly of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Avalon Village in Ligonier.
She was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Schenectady, N.Y. to the late Earle A. and Virginia (Clark) Hoxie.
Survivors include three daughters, Bette (Tom) Gearin of Elkhart, Jennie Garber of Rome City and Barbara (Robert) Hartsough of Wolcottville; one stepdaughter, Carol Wilsey of Cathedral City, Calif.; two stepsons, Ralph Garber of South Bend and Carl (Judy) Garber Jr. of Denton, Texas; one brother, Earle (Helen) Hoxie of Surfside, S.C.; nine grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husbands, Carl A. Garber, Charles Steffen and Herbert A. Field; one son, John Garber; one stepson, Frank Garber; one sister, Helen Tomlinson; and one granddaughter, Sandie Chandler.
She worked many years at Miles Laboratory, Selmer and the Elkhart Truth.
She was a member of Elkhart Seventh Day Adventist Church.
There will be no public services and inurnment will take place at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Bristol, at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to Elkhart Seventh Day Adventist Church school building fund or the Salvation Army in memory of Virginia.
