Obituary

Mrs. Virginia Ellen Trost, 87, of Goshen, passed away peacefully at her home with her family at her side on Friday, December 1, 2023 at 12:50 am following an extended illness.

She was born in Elkhart on January 28, 1936 to the late Reverends Cleo W. and Esther (Wade) Crise. On August 20, 1958 she married Marvin Lee Trost, Sr. in South Bend. He survives at home after 65 wonderful years together.

Along with Marvin, Virginia is survived by her son Louis W. (Patricia) Trost of Osceola; daughters Ruth (Jeff) Truex of Goshen and Terry Trost of Elkhart; brothers the Rev. Carl (Elaina) Crise of Elkhart, Joe (Alicia) Crise of Goshen, and the Rev. John (Norma) Crise of West Liberty, Kentucky; sister Mary Johnson of Elkhart, and a loving host of grand, great grand and great-great grandchildren, as well as extended family and friends. Preceding Virginia in death are sons Marvin Lee Trost, Jr. and the Rev. Mike Meredith; brothers the Rev. Ira Crise and the Rev. Robert "Bob" Crise; sisters Ruth Viola Wagner and Esther "Mae" Collins and grandson SSG Marvin L. Trost, III, United States Army, who was killed in action in Fallujah, Iraq.

Virginia was a very spiritual Christian lady who loved praying for people about as much as she loved her Lord. She worked for the R. W. Schamback Revivals out of Texas for just over 20 years (specializing in healing and miracles) as the manager of their prayer phone lines. She was also an avid musician and sang at revivals with a saxophone quartet, along with singing in the choir and playing the organ and piano at church.

At home, she would literally play her piano all the time, and just loved all types of family-oriented get togethers. She also enjoyed keeping a journal, perhaps hoping that one day her memoirs may give hope to another.  She will be remembered for her very loving and spiritual presence and for her willingness to always help others with advice and confidence.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart will be hosting Virginia's homegoing services on Friday, December 8, 2023 beginning with a gathering of family and friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm, followed by a funeral service beginning at 1 pm.
