ELKHART -- Virgie Bell Darby, 75, of Elkhart, passed away at 6:28 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, 2010, at Valley View Health Care Center in Elkhart.
She was born April 18, 1935, in Greenbrier County, W. Va., to Harry and Avis (Shaver) Mace Sr. On Jan. 9, 1982, she married Delbert Odell Darby in Elkhart. He passed away Feb. 24, 2010.
Surviving are her son, Aaron (Violet) Moore of Pinch, W. Va.; daughter Shannon Darby of Charleston, W. Va.; brother Gary Goble Mace of Nicholas, W. Va.; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Cecil Moore; five brothers, Harry J., Carl, Lowell, Alvin and Earl Mace; and two sisters, Helen McCutcheon and Audry Greer.
Virgie worked as a punch press operator at Conn-Selmer for more than 28 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Whosoever Will Worship Center. She enjoyed singing, writing music and helping others in need.
The family will receive friends two hours prior to the 1 p.m. funeral service on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Rev. David Stevens of Whosoever Will Worship Center will officiate. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery.
