ELKHART — Violet June Moore, 79, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday morning, Nov. 9, 2013, at Eastlake Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Elkhart.
June was born June 6, 1934, in Elkhart, to the late Henry and Fleety (Pratt) Smith.
In addition to her parents, her daughter, Kathleen Harris; granddaughter Shonna Gilbert; and brothers Lou, Ray, Bud and Ralph Smith, preceded her in death.
June married Ned Moore. He passed away May 15, 1991.
Survivors include a son, Carl (Ellen) Gilbert of Goshen; grandchildren Kalene Gilbert, Anthony (Heather) Gilbert, Matthew (Maggie) Hartzell, Jonathon Hartzell, Trey Gilbert and Hunter-Rae Gilbert; great-grandchildren Erick Hartzell, Madeline Gilbert and Amelie Gilbert; sisters Genevieve Weirich of Bristol, Neva Howard of Edwardsburg, Mich.; and brother Donald Smith of Edwardsburg.
June worked at Uniroyal in Mishawaka for 20 years, in the cafeteria and then the yarn room. She enjoyed many interests including gardening, growing flowers and mushroom hunting. She was an avid animal lover, especially birds and her parrots, Gracie and Zipper. She enjoyed family time as well; playing cards and board games with her children and grandchildren.
Services celebrating the life of June Moore will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, with calling one hour prior at First Brethren Church, 4909 S. Ironwood Drive, South Bend. Pastor Larry Smith will officiate. In keeping with June's wishes, cremation has taken place with burial at a later date in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
The family kindly request memorials to the Elkhart County Humane Society or the American Diabetes Association.
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home.
