ELKHART — Elkhart area artist Victoria "Vicki" Magee, 68, passed away at 5:06 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, after a brief illness.
She was born Sept. 17, 1943, to the late Horace T. and Marie (Zimball) Smith in Des Moines, Iowa. On Aug. 21, 1964, she married Richard E. "Rich" Magee, who survives her at home.
Also surviving are a son, Scott Magee, of Elgin, Ill.; a daughter, Heather K. (William "Bill") Linderfelt of Corrales, N.M.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a half sister, Shirley.
In accordance to Vicki's wishes, her remains have been cremated. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at the Midwest Museum of Art, 429 S. Main St., in downtown Elkhart at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012.
Altera Cremation Services and Billings Funeral Home, both of Elkhart, have been assisting the family with arrangements.
Although she worked at Stephenson's Clothing Store in Elkhart for several years, her talent for art led her to become a member and docent at the Midwest Museum of American Art. She worked in monoprints and watercolors, and, in 1998, she was the featured artist for the Elkhart Jazz Festival. She was also director of the Woodlawn Nature Center in Elkhart for many years and was a graduate of Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.
