Obituary

Vicki Jo Talley, 69, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in the familiar comfort of her own home on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 2:49 a.m., following a brief illness. Surrounded by the life she built and the memories she cherished, Vicki’s journey here came to a gentle close, leaving behind a quiet space that will long be filled with her presence.

Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1956, in Elkhart, Vicki truly embodied the spirit of the season into which she was born. She was the beloved daughter of the late Fred W. “Jerdy” Talley and Shirley (Bays) Talley, and from her earliest years carried with her a warmth, resilience, and down-to-earth kindness that defined her life.

Vicki was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind her son, Cainen Talley-Fisher of Elkhart, who was the pride and center of her world, and a loving grandson who brought her immeasurable joy. She is also survived by her brother, Jeff (Penny) Talley of Saltville, Virginia, along with a large extended family and many dear friends who were blessed to know her steady heart and quiet humor. Among those closest to her were lifelong family friends of more than 50 years, Barbara and Ed Wenger of Osceola, whose bond with Vicki stood as a testament to loyalty and enduring friendship. And never far from her side was her treasured furry companion, Olive the Chihuahua, who provided constant comfort and companionship.

A hard worker through and through, Vicki spent many years employed at recognizable Elkhart institutions such as Wilt’s and Conn-Selmer, places where her reliability and strong work ethic were well known. At the time of her passing, she was still actively working in production at ACTIA Corporation in Elkhart, a reflection of her determination, independence, and pride in staying busy and contributing.

Outside of work, Vicki found joy in life’s simple, familiar pleasures. She was a wonderful cook who showed love through the meals she prepared, and her kitchen was a place of comfort and care. She delighted in watching old Love Boat reruns and Hallmark movies, tending lovingly to her outdoor gardens—especially her beloved cannas and vegetables—and taking every opportunity she could to get out and shop. She also cherished her trips to Virginia, where she enjoyed spending time with her Saltville relatives and reconnecting with family roots that meant so much to her.

Vicki lived a life marked by quiet strength, loyalty, and genuine love for those around her. She may not have sought the spotlight, but her presence was steady, comforting, and deeply felt by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in shared meals, garden blooms, familiar television reruns, and the enduring love of family and friends.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart is assisting the family with arrangements. In accordance with Vicki’s wishes, cremation will take place.
