Obituary
ELKHART — Vernon K. Tompkins, 64, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, Dec. 16, 2013, at Elkhart General Hospital.
He was born Nov. 28, 1949, in Canton, Ill., to Everett T. and Charlotte B. (Martin) Tompkins.
Survivors include two brothers, Eldon (Jeanne) Tompkins of Bradenton, Fla., and Gary (Michelle) Tompkins of Elkhart; two sisters, Connie (Dave) Schneider of Elkhart and Theresa (Chuck) Nees of Kokomo; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister-in-law, Sharon Tompkins.
Vernon served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.
He spent several years transporting RVs for various local manufacturers in the Elkhart area.
Vernon enjoyed many years of playing fast-pitch softball in Elkhart and surrounding areas.
Cremation will take place at Altera Cremation Services and a graveside service with military honors will be at a later date in Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.
Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., is entrusted with arrangements.
