GOSHEN — Verdelma Joan Lindsey, 76, of Goshen and lovingly known as "Joani," passed away at 7:15 a.m. Friday, Dec. 27, 2013, at IU Health Goshen Hospital after an extended illness.
She was born in Elkhart on Aug. 26, 1937, to the late Edward and Velma (Nickell) Adams.
Surviving are her daughter, Dawn (Don) Pease of Middlebury; her son, Ty (Dianne) Miller of Hemet, Calif.; grandchildren Shane Meyer of Middlebury, Melanie and Karlie Miller of Hemet, Dustin (Corri) Pease of Georgia and Angel Pease of Bristol; and great-grandchildren Sabrina Roney of Middlebury, Cameron and Brady Pease of Georgia and Travin Schlabaugh of Bristol.
Preceding her in death were her siblings, Dawn L. and Tifton E. Adams; as well as her beloved Yorkshire terriers Shannon, Tasha and Laci.
A celebration of Joani's life will take place at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart beginning with visitation on Monday, Dec. 30, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m. The funeral will continue on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2013, at 11 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate. Burial will follow at Adamsville Cemetery in Edwardsburg, Mich.
Joani held many careers in her life, from being a 911 dispatcher in Edwardsburg to working in the tool and die and RV industries. She finally retired in the early 1990s due to her health.
She was also an avid gardener and animal lover and had spent many years raising Yorkshire terriers.
Memorial donations may be given to Hospice Foundation or to the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
