MIDDLEBURY — Vera Mae Wickstrom, 83, passed away Saturday evening, Aug. 3, in Middlebury at the home of her son and daughter-in-law, David and Janet Wickstrom, where she lived for the past seven years.
She was born Aug. 24, 1929, in Sullivan County to the late Ernest E. and Edna M. (Mattox) Beadle. On Aug. 9, 1952, she married the Rev. Earnest L. Wickstrom in Elkhart. He died May 21, 2001. Also preceding her in death were her brothers, Carol and Robert Beadle.
Surviving are a son, David L. (Janet L.) Wickstrom of Middlebury; and daughter Deborah L. Gamble of Milwaukee. Also surviving are Vera's grandchildren, Joe Barnes, Brandi (Jason) Pattee, David (Sarah) Wickstrom, Chris (Mellisa) Barnes, Janissa and Sam Gordon; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Vera retired in 1991 from Ziker Cleaners, where she worked for 15 years. She also worked in sales at J.C. Penney for a number of years.
She was a long-time member of Bethel Assembly of God Church in Elkhart. She enjoyed reading, bird-watching and doing jigsaw and word search puzzles.
A service to celebrate Vera's life will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2013, with visitation starting at 11 a.m. at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor David Lade of Bethel Assembly of God Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
