EDWARDSBURG, Mich. -- Vera M. Freimund, 89, passed away at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 30, 2011, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.
Vera was born June 4, 1921, in Kessington, Mich., Mason Township, as the daughter of the late Clair O. and Edna L. (Hiatt) Smith. She married Robert D. Freimund on Jan. 18, 1942, in Adamsville. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; three daughters, Janet D. (Dr. W. Scott) Kiester of Granger, Ind., Betty M. (Michael) Standiford of South Bend, Ind., and Becky M. (Jeff) Dangler of Niles; and six grandchildren, Michelle (John) Karren, Jason (Janie) Kiester, Mickey (Kelly) Standiford, Amanda (Chris) Johnson, Jennifer (Tim) Stein and Joseph Dangler. Surviving as well are 10 great-grandchildren and her brother, Jerry (Betty) Smith of Niles.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Smith, and her sister, Margaret Stoeckinger-Baxter.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today, May 3, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, Ind. Funeral services to celebrate Vera's life will be at noon Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at Adamsville Road Church of God, located at 51287 C.R. 7, Elkhart, with calling for one hour prior to services. Pastor Rob Meckley will officiate. Burial will follow in Adamsville Cemetery.
Vera was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother. She was a strong woman of faith and a longtime member of Adamsville Road Church of God. At one time she worked at C.G. Conn, where she helped with the war effort during World War II. Vera loved to cook and make homemade quilts from scratch.
The family requests memorials be given to Adamsville Road Church of God.
