ELKHART -- Vera Iona Berkey, 98, of Elkhart, formerly of Goshen, died at 7 p.m. Friday (Dec. 12, 2008) in the Valley View Health Care Center.

She was born on April 25, 1910, in Howard County to Riley and Maude (Zerbe) Kendall. She married Clarence Berkey on July 24, 1934, in Goshen. He died July 18, 1974, in Goshen.

She is survived by one daughter, Louise McKrill of Elkhart; one brother, Eldon Kendall of Fort Wayne; and two grandchildren, Greg McKrill and Pamela (Tim) Amerman, both of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Laurel Kendall; her infant brother, Paul Kendall; and her sister, Arlene Oesch.

Mrs. Berkey was a homemaker and enjoyed sewing, reading and crossword puzzles.

She was a member of Grace Bible Church and a former member of Jordan Memorial Tabernacle Church in Goshen.

All services for Mrs. Berkey will be private. Burial will take place in Rock Run Cemetery in Goshen.
