EKHART — Vance Laws, 77, of Elkhart, passed away Friday, April 6, 2012, at 9:40 a.m. at Elkhart General Hospital after an extended illness.
He was born in Mars Hill, N.C., on May 30, 1934, to the late Robert and Suvilla (Honeycutt) Laws. He married M. Charleen Lemming on July 16, 1953, in South Bend. She passed away in Elkhart in 2002.
Surviving are a daughter, Norma J. (Bruce) Laws-Loucks of Elkhart; sons Bill A. "Willis" and James A. "Jim" (Judith) Laws, both of Elkhart; brother Ronald Laws of Ashville, N.C.; sister Katherine Murray of Mars Hill; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Two brothers, James and Eugene Laws, and a son, Brian D. Laws, preceded him in death as well.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 10, 2012, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Billings Funeral Home in Elkhart. The funeral will be Wednesday, April 11, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will follow at Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier at 1 p.m. the same day. Pastor Gary Sheets will officiate.
Vance was a roadway supervisor for the Indiana Toll Road for many years. Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer's Association.
