Obituary

Valerie Ruby Vera (Sowle) Fisher, 64, of Elkhart, came to rest on Saturday, December 9, 2023, at home, with her loving family by her side.

She was born on February 8, 1959 in Amsterdam, NY at Saint Mary's Hospital to Joseph and Norma Sowle. Valerie was raised in upstate New York with her four siblings.

Valerie from an early age had a very caring nature which continued into her adult years as she spent her life taking care of others. Valerie met her husband Timothy in her early twenties whom she married on May 9, 1982. Valerie and Timothy had two daughters Rachelle Fisher and Danielle Fisher. Valerie was a woman of faith that loved to worship the Lord. Valerie and her family moved to Elkhart to start a business in the world of antiques, collectibles, and depression glass. Valerie always had a love for cooking, baking, and most of all taking care of others. Valerie worked in the dietary field at two different retirement communities and also as a home caregiver to multiple families in the Elkhart area. Valerie and Tim also owned a restaurant (Gropp's of Elkhart) for many years. She also received her associate degree later in life. Most of all Valerie loved spending quality time with her family and planning the next family function. She enjoyed long road trips with her husband Tim and (get lost adventures) with her sister Penny.

Valerie is preceded in death by her parents, brother Michael, grandson Jory, and Uncle George and Aunt Ruby McDonnell who Valerie was named after.

She is Survived by her husband Timothy L. Fisher, daughters Rachelle Fisher and Danielle Fisher, granddaughters Gabrielle (Cooper) Douwsma, Taylor Harper, Ja'Khia Fisher, Teagan Gary, grandsons Donovan Jackson and Cantrell London, and great granddaughter Ellison Douwsma. Brother Joseph Sowle, Sister Bonnie Kruger, and Sister Penny Renner.
