ELKHART -- Trilvey "T" Elton Works, 66, of Elkhart died at 1:30 p.m. Monday (March 23, 2009) in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, South Bend.


She was born Nov. 11, 1942, in Staunton, Va., to Luthor and Louise (Richardson) Childress.


Ms. Works is survived by four sons, Richard (Andrea) Childress and Carl Childress, both of Elkhart, Greg Childress of San Antonio and Eugene Childress of Decatur, Ill.; one daughter, Patricia (Ron) North of Mission Viejo, Calif.; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Stanley (Laura) Childress and Angelo Williams, both of Decatur; and two sisters, Mrs. Brandon Childress of Decatur and Stephanie (Philip) King of Baltimore.


Ms. Works was a nurse before becoming operations manager for the National Black Caucus in Washington for nearly 10 years. She was a 1960 graduate of Eisenhower High School in Decatur, a longtime member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church and a member of its choir.


She enjoyed singing, shopping and traveling, having visited Europe, Alaska and Hawaii. She also liked to care for the elderly and shut-ins, and spend time with friends and family.


Friends may call one hour prior to Saturday's 11 a.m. funeral service at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church, 802 W. Garfield Ave., Elkhart. The Rev. Sam Frison will officiate. Burial will follow in Rice Cemetery.


Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
