Todd Allen North, 62, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully in the comforting care of his family and the staff at the Center for Hospice Care Esther House on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 7:14 a.m., following an extended illness.

He was born on August 28, 1963, in Elkhart to the late Donald Virgil North and June (Pete) Mikev (née VanderHayden) of Elkhart. In 2010, Todd was blessed to marry the love of his life, Tabbetha J. "Tabby" Smith, in Elkhart. Their marriage was one of partnership, laughter, shared faith, and unconditional love, and she survives him at home.

Along with his wife and mother, Todd is lovingly remembered by his daughters, Brittany (Nate) Beach Tallman of Ft. Mill, South Carolina, Chelsea Beach North of North Carolina, and Holly Hernandez and Kirsten Ousley, both of Elkhart, and his son, Joshua M. Ferrier, also of Elkhart. His eight grandchildren brought him endless joy and were a constant source of pride and love in his later years. He is also survived by many extended family members, in-laws, and close friends, as well as his faithful Jack Russell Terrier, Jasper, who rarely left Todd's side and was affectionately known as his "official footwarmer." Todd was preceded in death by his brother, James A. North.

Todd grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1981, where he excelled as a swimmer before continuing both his education and his swimming at Vincennes University. After school, Todd built a life marked by hard work, craftsmanship, and loyalty. He spent much of his career in construction and maintenance, working for companies such as Alpha Systems and Patrick Industries, where his attention to detail and reliability earned him respect and friendship. For more than 31 years, he also operated his own lot-striping business, pouring his dedication and work ethic into every job. In later years, Tabby faithfully partnered with him in that business, the two of them side by side in both work and life.

Though Todd took pride in his work, his heart was fullest when he was outdoors. He was an avid fisherman, mushroom hunter, and nature enthusiast. His happiest moments were often spent with a fishing pole in his hand or quietly walking the woods, attuned to the beauty and stillness of God's creation. Todd had a tender heart for animals and delighted in feeding the birds, squirrels, and deer that visited his backyard. Even his lawn reflected his personality—laid back in spirit, yet meticulous in care. His love of the outdoors was not just a pastime, but a reflection of his soul's deep connection to the Creator.

Todd's Christian faith was the anchor of his life. He was a devout believer and attended Crossroads Community Church in Elkhart, where he found fellowship and encouragement. His walk with the Lord gave him peace in both life and illness, and he often leaned on Scripture and prayer as his guide. Family and friends will remember his quiet, steady faith, lived out not in loud declarations but in the way he loved his family, worked with integrity, and cared for the world around him.

In his quiet moments, Todd enjoyed simple pleasures—watching old Westerns, sharing laughs with Tabby, or cheering on his beloved Chicago Bears. He wasn't one to rush through life; he had a laid-back spirit, yet he lived with deep intentionality, savoring both the work of his hands and the blessings of his home and family.

Todd's life was a reflection of humility, faith, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family, kindness to all of God's creatures, and a steadfast trust in his Savior.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. At this time, no services are planned.
