Thomas J. "Tom" Donnell, 87, of Elkhart, was called home on Saturday, June 8, 2019 at Elkhart General Hospital. He was born in Elkhart on March 23, 1932 to the late Robert and Lucille (McCormick) Donnell, and later married Mary Ellyn Campbell on Aug. 23, 1958 in Chicago. She survives after nearly 61 wonderful years together. He is also survived by his sons Joseph (Cindy) of Long Grove, IL, Martin of Newton, MA, Kevin (Shelley) of Valparaiso and David (Lorrie) of Chicago, IL; grandchildren Quinn of Los Angeles, CA, Lauren of New York, NY and Samuel of Chicago and brothers Robert (Mary) of Boxford, MA and James (Jean) of Elkhart. A brother, David, precedes Tom in death. Tom's life will be celebrated with a gathering of family and friends at Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services on Tuesday, June 11, 2019 from 6-8 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will follow on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at 12:00 noon at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Father Patrick Hake will officiate and cremation will follow the services with burial at St. Vincent's Cemetery taking place at a later date. Tom was a third generation railroad worker for over 40 years, retiring as a yard conductor in 1995. He was a member of the St Vincent de Paul parish and served honorably in the US Army following the Korean War.
