OSCEOLA — Thomas D. Funkhouser, 78, of Osceola, passed away Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, at his residence after an extended illness.
Thomas was born on Feb. 26, 1933, to the late Earl and Donna (Moore) Funkhouser of Mishawaka.
In addition to his parents, Thomas was preceded in death by his sister Willadene; two brothers, James and Roy Funkhouser; and an infant brother, Timothy.
On July 31, 1955, he married Doris (Comer) in Elkhart. She survives along with children Pam (Kirk) Bowman of Elkhart, Tom (Tina) Funkhouser of Edwardsburg, Mich., Lori (Janet Lundberg) Funkhouser of Elkhart and Scott Funkhouser of Mishawaka.
Others left to cherish his memory include five grandchildren, Allison and Josh Funkhouser and David, Dakotah and Dylan Bowman; as well as siblings Bob (Barb) Funkhouser and Joann (Dave) Whiteman, both of Elkhart, Martha Dittman of South Bend, Lois (Jerry) Lewis of Mishawaka and Phil (Judy) Funkhouser of Osceola; and special family friends Dennis Christman and Alissa and Kelsey Rowley.
The family also acknowledges all of the Oak Street neighborhood friends for their outpouring of love and support during Thomas' illness.
Thomas retired from Uniroyal in Mishawaka after 40 years of service. He was also a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
A gathering of friends and family will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 26, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, where an 11 a.m. celebration of Thomas' life will follow on Tuesday, Sept 27, 2011, with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Randy Perkins, a nephew, will officiate. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Osceola.
