He was born July 28, 1936, in Topeka, Ind., to Mahlon O. and Beatrice (Stauffer) Davis. He married Joanne R. Conley on Oct. 20, 1956, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Elkhart.

She survives, along with a son, Mike E. Davis of Elkhart; a daughter, Michelle A. Takerer of Elkhart; and a sister, Mary Lou (Bud) Markey of Elkhart. A grandson, Matthew D. Wise, preceded him in death.

Friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Friends also may call for 30 minutes prior to a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 1108 S. Main St., Elkhart. The Rev. Wilson Corzo will officiate. Burial and graveside services will follow in St. Vincent Cemetery.

Mr. Davis retired from GTE after 35 years of service. He attended St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. He was a 1956 graduate of Elkhart High School. He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. His many interests included camping, hiking, travel and the outdoors. He enjoyed reading and was a military history buff. He also loved animals, especially cats.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to United Cancer Services of Elkhart County or the Humane Society of Elkhart County.
