Obituary


ELKHART -- Theodore Roosevelt "Teddy" Lyman, 78, of 911 Madison St., died at 9:10 a.m. Tuesday (Dec. 8, 2009) in Elkhart General Hospital.


He was born May 23, 1931, in Peabody, Kan., to Theodore R. Sr. and Frances L. (McClune) Lyman. In November 1949 he married Jacquelyn Gowan. They divorced. He married Florence Marie Helton, the mother of his children, on May 20, 1966, in Cassopolis, Mich. She died in June 1970 in Elkhart.


Mr. Lyman is survived by one daughter, Deborah E. (Brett A. Canen) Lyman of Elkhart; one son, Michael L. (Laurie) Lyman of Fountain, Fla.; three sisters, Vivian Heatwole of Illinois, and Frances M. and Charlotte P. Lyman, both of Wichita, Kan.; and his former wife of Smith's Station, Ala.


Mr. Lyman worked for Ace Cab Co., Elkhart, more than 45 years. He began on New Year's Day 1960 and retired due to his health in 2005. He enjoyed relaxing on his couch, spending time with his friends and family, and watching golf. He was an avid NFL fan whose favorite team was the Dallas Cowboys. He liked word search puzzles.


He served in the U.S. Army more than 11 years and was stationed in several places, including Japan.


There will be no visitation or funeral service. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is assisting with arrangements.
