ELKHART — Thelma P. Burdin, 88, of Elkhart, passed away of natural causes at 5:20 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart.
She was born April 4, 1927, in Kennett, Mo., to the late Wm. H and Ella C. (Patton) Jaques.
She later married Garrett Burdin in January 1960. He died in Elkhart in 1992.
Surviving are her daughters, Vicky (John Crothers) Woods of Vandalia, Mich., Pam (Jerry) Andrews and Sandra Merideth, both of Middebury, and Sherry Sullivan and Patricia (Harland) Smith, both of Elkhart, as well as a multitude of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Emery Merideth; a daughter, Judy Reeder; and several brothers and sisters.
A celebration of Thelma's life will begin at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on Friday, May 15, with a visitation starting at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Pastors Ed and Myrine Stewart will officiate. A graveside committal service will follow in Rice Cemetery.
Thelma was a nurse and worked as a CNA in both the private and public health care sectors for most of her adult life. She was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan and enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
