ELKHART — Mrs. Thelma M. Bostwick, 99, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully following a brief illness at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2016 at 10:32 am.
She was born in Elkhart on March 31, 1917 to the late Clinton and Marie (Livengood) Strawser, and later married Donald D. Bostwick on Sept. 3, 1938 in Elkhart. He precedes her in death, along with a sister, Helen Harker.
Surviving are her daughters Joy Miller of Elkhart and Diane (Philip) Creps of Gilbert, AZ; sons Donald "Lamar" (Patricia) Bostwick of Elkhart and Doug and Teri Bostwick of Seymore, MO; 9 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 1 great- great granddaughter.
Bethel Assembly of God, 600 E. Bristol St., Elkhart, is hosting a celebration honoring Thelma's life with a visitation beginning Thursday, Nov. 3, 2016 from 4-8 pm. Funeral services will follow there on Friday, Nov. 4, 2016 at 11:00 am. Pastor David Lade will officiate and burial will follow in White Pigeon Cemetery at 4:00 pm. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
Thelma was a domestic housekeeper until she "retired" at 85 years old, and taught Sunday school at Elkhart's Bethel Assembly of God until she was 86. She was a member of the "WM's", a ladies group affiliated with Bethel, and held the moniker "the quilt lady" because she always supplied the quilts for the various church functions and bazaars. Memorial donations may be given in Thelma's name to the church.
