ELKHART — The Rev. Elwood Dunn, 77, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at 12:12 a.m. Thursday, June 11, in his home with his family at his side following an extended illness.
He was born Aug. 20, 1937, in Double Springs, Ala., to the late Harvey H. and Nora (Hicks) Dunn.
He married Nola A. Collins in Fulton, Miss., on May 22, 1954. She passed away in Elkhart in 2001.
Surviving are his children, Judy A. Davis-Roark and David L. (Lori) Dunn, both of Elkhart; brother Edward "Smokey" (Jonetta) Dunn of Decatur, Ala.; sisters Freda (Charles) Denson and Brenda "Spooky" (Kim) Allison, both of Addison, Ala.; three grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Preceding him in death were a daughter, Linda "Sis" Dunn; a grandson, Cpl. Aaron Seal, U.S. Marine Corps, who was killed in action in Iraq in 2006; and a brother-in-law, Randy Roark.
A celebration of the Rev. Elwood's life will take place at Riverview General Baptist Church, 1201 E. Indiana Ave., Elkhart, with visitation from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 14. A funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. Monday, June 15. Pastor Rick Pirtle and Brother Dwight Weaver will officiate. Burial will follow in Little Pine Cemetery in Goshen.
Arrangements have been placed under the care and direction of Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart.
The Rev. Elwood retired from Riblet Products in Elkhart in 1990 after 33 years there. He also drove as an over-the-road truck driver on the weekends for nearly 30 years. He was the former pastor of God's House of Prayer in Elkhart, but he also assisted with services in several other area churches, including Riverview General Baptist, where he attended.
