IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tasherrah Celestgabriel
De Shazier
March 11, 1993 – November 1, 2022
Ms. TaSherrah CelestGabriel De Shazier, 29, of Mishawaka, Indiana, peacefully passed on from this life into the next on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at the family home. She was born in Louisville, Kentucky on March 11, 1993 to Randy William and Effie Christine "Crissy" (Gibson) De Shazier, who survive her at home.
Also surviving TaSherrah is her remarkably bright four year old son Oliver Ramsay De Shazier; but don't call him Oliver because he's very outspoken on his preference to "Ollie"! Additionally TaSherrah is survived by her sister, best friend and harmony ShaTerrahnica LeeAnnDawn (Christopher) Cummins of Wilder, Idaho; her aunt Cynthia (Richard) Proffit of London, Kentucky; uncles Cletus (Paula) Gibson of Bedford, Kentucky, Michael (Mary Ann) Gibson of LaGrange, Kentucky, Glenual Gibson of Panama City, Florida and Alvin (Christine) Gibson of Leitchfield, Kentucky; nieces and nephews Jaron, Ryker and Ella Belle ("Ella the Belle") Cummins, who lovingly knew TaSherrah as "Mimi", and a huge host of loving extended family and great friends. Grandparents Cletus Lee and Betty Jane Gibson and Gary L. and Insuk "Sandy" (Yung) De Shazier precede TaSherrah in death.
Pastor and Mrs. Mark A. Johnson of the Elkhart Life Church, 1135 Middlebury Street, Elkhart, Indiana, wish to extend their most gracious invitation to what will be the beginning of TaSherrah's journey home to the family cemetery near Clarkson, Kentucky. They will host services for TaSherrah on Monday, November 7, 2022 at 7:00 pm, with a gathering of family and friends starting there at 6:00 pm. Pastor Mark will, of course, officiate these services and Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are assisting the family with northern Indiana arrangements. Afterwards, TaSherrah will journey to Jeffersonville, Indiana (where she grew up) where another set of services will take place at the Calvary Apostolic Church, 621 Mechanic Street, Jeffersonville, Indiana on Wednesday, November 9, 2022, starting with a visitation at 10:00 am followed by a service at 11:00 am. Pastor Rusty Akers will officiate. Following these services, the family will accompany their daughter to her final resting place at Gibson Family Cemetery, 55 Gibson Cemetery Road, Clarkson, Kentucky. The committal service is scheduled for 3:30 pm. Please note that there will be no tent or chairs at the graveside, but one may bring their own folding chair. Coots Funeral Home of Jeffersonville, Indiana is assisting the family with the southern Indiana and the graveside services in Clarkson.
Although TaSherrah spent several years in the Jeffersonville area, her heart never strayed far from her…well, Old Kentucky Home. TaSherrah was blessed with a rich family heritage that she held dear to her soul. She had always been a kind, funny and outgoing child, and had always been incredibly smart. Her high school years saw her achieving many honor roll standings as well as excelling in theatre and, later, singing. She was a beautifully gifted natural alto and sang occasionally at Elkhart Life Church, with her mom Effie saying that she could never tire of hearing her beautiful voice.
Occupationally speaking, TaSherrah worked as an insurance adjustor for the Humana Corporation, but everyone knew she'd much rather be with her loving son Ollie and her family than processing paperwork. She loved those that loved her, and she found several ways of expressing that love for others. She loved to cook, but for TaSherrah it was more about filling hungry bellies than it was about making something fancy. She was very forgiving also. Perhaps it was a reflection of her own life, perhaps not, but TaSherra was always keen on giving someone another chance. She absolutely loved children, and thanks to TaSherrah, Ra-Niya Moore, Jayden Hawlett and Niyah Withers were blessed to receive a forever home and TaSherrah's dad Randy was happy that he had a few more kids to call him "Pawpaw". She was a huge animal lover and had several dogs and cats over the years, sporting original catchy names like "Gateway", "Betty" and "Cletus". She also decided to feed the squirrels in her yard at some point, and eventually got them to come to her and eat from her hand using Doritos. The down side of that episode was the resulting army of red, black and gray squirrels that would descend upon the front door stoop every time someone wanted to go outside She was very, very fond of peacocks as well, probably because of their beautiful plumage, and always marveled whenever she had a chance to be up close to one.
It should also be mentioned that there was one thing…..one thing that TaSherrah didn't like……at all. And that was small, plastic baby dolls. The more realistic, the more terror inflicted, and EVERYone knew this. Lord only knows what ever happened to poor TaSherrah to cause her to freak out over baby dolls, but literally everyone (especially Liz Johnson and Chris Cummins) stood in line to catch TaSherrah off guard and surprise her with a gag baby doll at the most inopportune times! Of course, TaSherrah's good nature and huge sense of humor always made her laugh, because after all, if you can't laugh at yourself first, then you shouldn't then laugh at others, right?
All in all, TaSherrah was a beautiful, loving and outgoing young lady who brightened the hearts of everyone around her. She was a "soul-winner" her mom would say, because of her natural ability to endear herself to others. Whether you knew her as TaSherrah, T, Taz, Sister or Brown Sugar, you always knew you had a friend who would stand with you if need be. The world has lost a loving soul. We prefer to say that Heaven has gained one.
