Obituary

ELKHART — Tammy Jean Massart, 51, our angel, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, at home surrounded by family and friends.

She was born in Butler, Pa., to Oscar L. "Big-O" and Shirley Ann (Sekela) Massart.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley Ann (Dave) Adams; one brother, Terry M. (Lori) Massart; three sisters, Tracey L. Massart, Tricia A. Massart and Timberlee S. (Mikal) Alexander; five nephews, Jeremy Welch, Christopher Wimmer, Louis Randall, Michael Randall and Timothy Alexander; a great-nephew, Jordan Smith; two nieces, Brandi Bontrager and Faith Mohr; and a great-niece, Ma-Kynzi Welch, all of Elkhart.

She was preceded in death by her father, Oscar L. Massart — known to everyone as Big-O; a baby sister, Lorrie A. Massart; a baby brother, Troy O. Massart; and her older brother, Todd A. Massart.

Tammy graduated from Memorial High School, at 17, in the class of 1980.

She enjoyed hunting with her dad. She was an avid bowler, earning titles in Pennsylvania and Elkhart. She bowled at the Country Club and Oakland Lanes. She also loved to play softball and, after many years, became a coach, taking her little league team to a 14-0 winning season. She loved to fish and belonged to the Bass-N-Gals Association with her mom and sister Tricia.

Tammy worked for 33 years in the RV industry, since she was 18 years old. Until her illness she was employed at Heartland Industries Inc., whom we can't thank enough for their support and prayers.

Friends are welcome to call from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday Oct. 26, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral graveside committal services will follow at a later date at the family plot in St. Michaels Cemetery in Butler, Pa.

We would like to thank everyone who sent her prayers and best wishes as she fought her biggest battle with cancer, especially the special people on the rehab floor of Elkhart General Hospital; the kindest caring people we could not do without at Hospice Center; and last, but not least, her caregivers, Karen and Bill Levi.
