ELKHART — Susie Mae Ferrell, 96, of Elkhart, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2013.
Susie Mae was born to the late Elihu and Kate (Giles) Park on March 15, 1916, in Seymour, Iowa. She married Harold "Tony" Ferrell on March 1, 1936,in Seymour. They lived for one year on a farm near Seymour, then moved to Gary, where they established their home and raised their family.
Tony passed away in December of 1980. In addition to her husband, sisters Carolyn Park and Charlotte Lord, and a brother, Andy Park, preceded her in death.
Surviving are her daughters, Judith Carole Ferrell of Elkhart and Karen Sue Metz and husband, Kenneth, of Franktown, Colo.
Susie was a homemaker. She was quite a seamstress and made many of her own clothes. She also enjoyed doing crafts.
She was a former member of Black Oak Church of Christ in Gary and was a member of Elkhart Church of Christ. She was a woman of faith and was very caring and giving. She tried to live by her favorite scripture, Philippians 4:13.
A gathering of friends and family will be from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. (CST) Monday, Jan. 7, 2013, with calling for one hour prior at Calumet Park Funeral Chapel, 7535 Taft St., Merrillville.
Burial will follow in Calumet Park Cemetery.
