Susan Marie (Rounds) Johnson, 70, peacefully passed away on Monday, July 11 2022 in her home, surrounded by dear family and friends.

Susan was born June 13th 1952 to Harold Burton Rounds and Lois Marts Rounds.

Susan grew up in Ashville, New York and attended Ashville Elementary and Panama Central Schools, graduating in 1971. Susan spent her early years working at AVM in Jamestown, New York and later as a Clerk for the Town of Busti in Lakewood, New York.   After relocating to Elkhart, Indiana she spent many years building and running the Cranberry Barn Candle Company, distributing her candles across much of the United States.  She married Kenneth Johnson on November 5, 1997.

Susan enjoyed annual trips to Black Lake, Michigan with her family, and antique shopping with her sister and aunt.  She loved to travel and see new things, making many trips to Germany and the Caribbean.

Susan was a devout Christian and faithfully attended Granger Community Church, where she and Ken served as usher/greeter.  She also volunteered with GCC's mission team, #4 Michiana.  In her years spent at GCC, she made many dear friends and was well known for welcoming everyone with her always smiling face, warm greeting, and kind heart.

Susan can be described best by the motto she lived by, "because nice matters".  She was kind, gentle, and selfless, and the most friendly and loving person anyone could ever hope to meet.  She knew no stranger, and made friends wherever she went, including the clerks and cashiers where she shopped.  Susan loved her family and close friends with a passion that is seldom seen.  Even strangers were drawn to her sincere kindness and compassion.

Susan is survived by her husband, Ken Johnson; sister, Deborah (Robert) Wells; four children, Aaron (Kimberly) Anderson, Gregory (Heidy) Anderson, Angie (Dan) Manes and Beth (Jay) Simmons, Aunts; Lucille Marts and Carol Marts, 11 grandchildren; Katie, Gus, Owen, Samantha, Lily, Baker, Willa, Megan, Morgan, Hanna and Sarah, and 8 great grandchildren.

Susan was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Lois Rounds, and her grandparents, Roy and Edna Kent.

A Celebration of Susan's Life Service will be held at 5:00pm on July 18, 2022 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514 with Pastor Dan Puckett of Granger Community Church officiating. A Gathering of family and friends will be from 2:00pm to 5:00pm at the funeral home.
