Known as "Little Grandma," she was born on December 21, 1948, in Elkhart to Wayne and Kathleen "Kate" (Slife) Wise. She married Harry B. "Joe" Everett on June 21, 1980, in Jones.
He survives along with one son, Chris Everett of Spartansburg, South Carolina; four daughters, Kimberly (Dan) Becker of Union, Deenise Everett of Edwardsburg and Sandra (Jim) Cusin and Joanne Van Schoick, both of New Carlisle; eight grandchildren left to cherish her memory are Joleen Smith of White Pigeon, Robert Stout of Hawaii, and Jackie Becker, Allyssa Wilson, Jordan Wilson, Daniel Becker, Chelsea Slabaugh and Cody Slabaugh, all of Union; one sister, Valerie (Tom) Thomas of Livingston, Texas; and her parents Kathleen "Kate" Hyre and Wayne (Joey) Wise, both of Elkhart.
She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Helen Slife Krause.
Susan has been cremated in accordance to her wishes. Private memorial services will be held at Susan's home on June 21, 2008, at 10 a.m. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, is handling arrangements. Susan grew up in Elkhart and graduated from Elkhart High School in 1966. She was employed at Fountain View Nursing Home for several years until she became involved in home health care. She always enjoyed the opportunity to help others and was very involved in assisting with various community events including Cass County Community Policing, Red Cross Blood Drives and annual community pancake breakfasts. She also made many donations to the area women's shelters and assisted with the Porter Township (Michigan) Fire Department fundraisers.
She loved working outdoors and taking care of her family. She was a wonderful lady with many friends and a heart of gold, who never knew a stranger and could get along with anyone. She will be greatly missed by all.
