Obituary
ELKHART — Steven Michael "Steve" Strukel, 59, of Elkhart, passed away Saturday, June 11, at Indiana University Hospital, Indianapolis.
Steve was born Jan. 12, 1957, in Elkhart, to Robert E. Strukel and Wanda M. (Peffley) Rowe.
Steve is survived by his mother and stepfather, Wanda M. and James Rowe of Elkhart, brother Randy (Karen) Strukel of Elkhart, stepsister Beth Ann (Mike) Neff of Kalkaska, Mich.; four nephews; two nieces; and host of aunts, uncles and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert; infant brother, Ronald Strukel; sister Judith Pavoni; grandmothers Mildred Clark and Mina Jacobs; and paternal grandparents, Anton and Mary Strukel.
Steve was a 1975 graduate of Elkhart Memorial High School. He worked for many years at the original Big R Store on S. R. 19 and was working at Kryders Lawn Mowers in parts and service for more than 16 years.
Steve was all about music, he was a longtime local drummer, as he would say he's been "in more rock bands than he could count". Please join with his family as we celebrate Steve's life with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 16, at Billings Funeral Home. A service will conclude the evening, beginning at 8 p.m. The Rev. Zachary Berry of St. Vincent dePaul Catholic Church will officiate.
In honoring Steve's wishes, cremation will follow, with burial at a later date in St. Vincent Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request memorials to the National Kidney Foundation.
