ELKHART — Stephen T. "Steve" Decker, 67, of Elkhart, passed away Monday morning, Jan. 23, 2012, at his home.
Steve was born June 12, 1944, in Seymour to the late Donald E. and Betty G. (Walters) Decker. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Shirley Jean Decker.
On Sept. 26, 1989, in Las Vegas, Steve married Rose A. Kiser. They have enjoyed 22 years of marriage. She survives along with sons Don "Spike" Decker, Dave Decker, Doug Decker and Christopher (Holly) Decker, all of Elkhart; daughters Stephani (Joe) Carnevale of Cicero and Amy Davies of Elkhart. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren and sisters Paula Decker of Mishawaka and Margaret (Biff) Osborn of Marion; and his former wife, Toni Decker of Elkhart.
Steve was a CPA and president and owner of Skamper Corp. in Bristol and co-owner of JV Supply in Elkhart, and during his many years in the RV industry he served on many boards with RVIA. After he retired, he was a substitute teacher for Concord and Elkhart community schools. He was a member of Crossroads Community Church, Stephen's Ministry and Gideons International. He graduated from Marion (Ind.) High School, where he was active in sports. He attended Indiana State University and then graduated with his master's degree from Ball State University. He enjoyed camping.
Visitation for Steve will be from 2 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 25, 2012 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Thursday with visitation for one hour prior at Crossroads Community Church, 57415 Alpha Drive, Goshen. Pastors James Fischer, Marc Royer and Tim Fisher will officiate. Private family burial will follow at Little Pine Cemetery.
