Sonya A. (Popowski) Fearnow, 92, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at Greenleaf Health Campus. She was born on March 15, 1932, in Indianapolis to the late Adolif and Clara (Deefinbaugh) Popowski. On September 4, 1949, in Wabash, Sonya married the love of her life, Nun "Jack" Fearnow, Jr. He passed away in 1990.

Sonya is survived by her sons, Jack (Linda), Terry, Gary (Dena), and Jeffery (Carol) Fearnow; 7 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-granchildren; and a loving host of extended family, friends, and acquaintances.

In addition to her husband and parents, Sonya was preceded in death by her grandson, Matthew "Gus" Fearnow; daughter-in-law, Jackie Fearnow; and sister, Betty Kramer.

Services for Sonya will be held on Monday, December 9, 2024, at Billings Funeral Home with a funeral service and sharing of stories to begin at 12 PM. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the service starting at 10 AM. Pastor Damon Howell will officiate. Immediately following the funeral, burial and graveside services will be held at Rice Cemetery, where Sonya will be reunited with her loving husband.

Sonya worked as a waitress at Parkway Inn for numerous years in the area. When her sons were growing up, she helped with various sports functions at Jimtown High School and was proud of all their accomplishments. In her later years, she enjoyed dancing, completing puzzles and coloring pages, and telling stories.

Sonya will best be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend to many who was also a fierce soul day-to-day. She, along with all the love and joy she shared, will be dearly missed by those whose hearts she touched throughout her life.
