Obituary
ELKHART — Sonja Schenk, 81, of Elkhart, passed away at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart on Thursday, Dec. 4, following an extended illness.
She was born in Chicago on Jan. 7, 1933, to the late Herluf and Olga (Christiansen) Hansen.
In 1948, she married Richard W. Schenk in Chicago. He passed away in 1992.
Surviving are her daughter, Susan (Dan) Granzotto of Elkhart; sons Steven (Ruth) Schenk of Elk Grove, Ill., Donald Schenk of Schaumburg, Ill., and Scott (Tamra) Schenk of Northlake, Ill.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
In accordance with her wishes, Sonja has been cremated. A private family burial in Mount Emblem Cemetery in Bensonville, Ill., will take place Friday, Dec. 12.
Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart has been assisting the family with arrangements.
Sonja presided over the Northlake Chamber of Commerce for many years, as well as owned a small printing business known as "Keystone Kopies" for nearly 30 years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Center for Hospice Care or the National Parkinson Foundation.
