Obituary

Ms. Sidney S. Moore, 84, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully of natural causes on Friday, January 24, 2025, at 2:15 p.m. at Riverside Village Rehabilitation Community in Elkhart. Born on April 2, 1940, in Charleston, West Virginia, Sidney was the cherished daughter of the late Fred and Helen Ballard. She was reunited in eternity with her beloved son, Michael Moore, who preceded her in passing.

Sidney leaves behind a legacy of love and devotion in her surviving son, Mark (Melanie) Moore of Goshen, and her treasured grandchildren: Michael Lee Moore of Charleston, Helen (Luke) Barnett of Goshen, Jessie (Hannah) Dorsey of Elkhart, and Riley and Breanna Moore, both of Charleston. Each of them carries a piece of her warm and generous spirit, a testament to the love she showered upon them throughout her life.

A woman of deep faith, Sidney's devotion to her Lord was unwavering. Her faith was not just spoken—it was lived. She found immense joy in simple pleasures, like sharing heartfelt conversations over a fresh cup of coffee. Her kindness and compassion knew no bounds, and she had an uncanny ability to make everyone she met feel like an old friend.

Though she held a few odd jobs throughout her life, Sidney's true calling was in making a house a home. She created a space filled with warmth, laughter, and the tantalizing aromas of her famous home-cooked meals. Her homemade cheesecakes, "trash-can" style dinners, and country-fried steaks were legendary among family and friends, each bite infused with the love and care only she could provide.

Beyond her culinary skills, Sidney had a passion for collecting angel figurines and delicate knick-knacks, each piece holding a special memory or meaning. She had a delightful quirk of knitting small, thoughtful gifts for others—personalized tokens inspired by her conversations, a unique way of showing that she truly listened and cared.

Sidney's heart was as vast as the sky, and her only wish in her later years was to bring joy to those around her. Whether through a warm smile, a listening ear, or a simple act of kindness, she sought to uplift others in any way she could. She was a beacon of light, a soul filled with love, and a presence that will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place with the assistance of Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart. Memorial contributions may be given to the family to honor her memory and the love she so freely gave.

As we bid farewell to Sidney, we find comfort in knowing that she is now surrounded by angels—the very ones she so loved to collect—watching over those she held dear. May her kindness, faith, and unconditional love continue to inspire us all.
