Obituary

Shirley A. McLain, 84, of Elkhart, passed away Monday, November 2, 2020 at Valley View Health Care Center. She was born on January 16, 1936 in Elkhart to the late Joseph W. and Lillian (Vollmar) Tarnecy. She married Robert E. "Bob" McLain Sr. on December 14, 1957, Bob passed away on November 25, 2018 after 60 years of marriage.

Surviving are six children, Janet Larson, Roberta (Ron) Smeltzer, Christine Davis, Earl Robert (Sue) McLain, Robert E. "Bob" McLain Jr. and Timothy (Traci) McLain; 15 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild survive as well. She was preceded in death by her brother Joseph Tarnecy.

Shirley worked as the quality manager for Industrial Plastics from 1967 until her retirement in 1996. She was a 1954 graduate of Elkhart High School and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church.  Shirley was also a member and Past President of the former Simonton Lake Lions Club. She enjoyed reading and doing jig saw and word search puzzles.

Shirley family will receive friends from 2-6 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2020 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., where funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Monday, Nov. 9, with additional visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Rice Cemetery. The families preferred memorials are to Cancer Resources for Elkhart County, 23971 U.S. Hwy 33, Elkhart, IN 46517
