ELKHART — Shirley A. Janey, 76, of Elkhart, passed away at the Center for Hospice Care in Elkhart at 12:05 p.m. Wednesday, April 29.
She was born in Fortville on Dec. 13, 1938, to the late Avery and Helen (Skirvin) Current.
On Feb. 18, 1961, she married James R. "Jim" Janey in Elkhart, where he passed away in 2008.
Surviving are her daughters, Linda (Gary) Ellsworth of Knoxville, Tenn., Lora (Ralf) Schaper of Rockville and Shayla (Andrew) Thomas of Elkhart; her sister, Virginia Horvath of South Bend; five grandchilden; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Current.
Shirley's life will be celebrated Sunday, May 3, at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 5 p.m. Pastor Steve R. Bermea, Jr. of the House of Peace ministry will officiate. The celebration will continue Monday, May 4, in Prairie Street Cemetery with a graveside committal service at 10 a.m.
Shirley was a homemaker who loved old Westerns and country music. She had a gracious heart and was always taking care of family members in need. In her free time she liked to spend time with her border collie sidekick, Lucy, and play poker with her family.
