ELKHART -- Shirley Mae Comer, 70, of Elkhart, died at 4:13 p.m. Tuesday (Jan. 27, 2009) in the emergency room of Elkhart General Hospital.

She was born March 21, 1938, in Elkhart to Martin E. and Bertha (Kothe) Stewart. On Sept. 17, 1955, she married Harold G. Comer at Central Christian Church, Elkhart. He died in September 2007.

Mrs. Comer is survived by three sons, Michael G. (Brenda C.) Comer of Granger, David Comer of Elkhart and Steven (Penny) Comer of Fort Myers, Fla.; one daughter, Julie (Dick) Morgan of Fort Myers; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Deborah Comer, and one stepbrother, Wayne Stuart.

Mrs. Comer was a homemaker and an avid CBer, known by the handle "Indian Girl." She enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing bingo and doing crafts at Eastlake Health and Rehabilitation Center.

Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, and one hour prior to Saturday's 10:30 a.m. celebration service. Pastor Tim Aydelotte of Monson Community United Methodist Church of South Bend will officiate. Cremation will follow the service.
