Mrs. Shirley Ann Bracken, 82, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at the Center for Hospice care in Elkhart following an illness on Friday, Jan. 31, 2020 at 7:45 pm. She was born May 31, 1937 in Cypress, IL to the late Paul R. and Lovena (Jones) Turner, and later married Richard A. Bracken in Elkhart on May 1, 2015. He survives at home.
Surviving are children Diann (Bruce) Anglemyer, Robert and Scott Stutzman, Shelia (Brian) Dube, Larry (Jenelle) Bracken; grandchildren Mason, Cole, Alexis, Madison and Holly Stutzman, and Eliza and Joyanna Bracken, Jordan (Tristan) Dube, Courtney (Collin) Lanam, Brittany and Brice Anglemyer; her former spouse David Stutzman and a host of extended family, church family and friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her brother, Paul Gene Turner.
Shirley's life will be celebrated beginning with a visitation at Billings Funeral Home of Elkhart on Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2020 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A funeral service will follow on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2020 at the First Presbyterian Church at 200 E. Beardsley Ave. in Elkhart at 11:00 am with visitation beginning there one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. Sally Wicks will officiate and cremation and burial will follow at a later date at the memorial gardens located at the church.
Shirley was a homemaker the majority of her life but also worked for a time as a telephone operator, a realtor and at Whitehall Laboratories. She enjoyed reading, watching Hallmark movies and league bowling in her earlier years. She had a passion for feeding and watching the local birds, especially the Cardinals and the Hummingbirds. She especially enjoyed the warm summer days spent with Richard, reading by the lake shore or tooling around on the pontoon and playing cards with friends.
