ELKHART — Shirlee J. Nowicki-Burke, 90, of Elkhart, passed away Sunday, Dec. 25, 2011, at 1:47 a.m. at her residence. She was born July 4, 1921, in South Bend to Charles N. and Mildred (Lamb) Yoder.
On March 28, 1942 she married LeRoy T. Nowicki. He died March 12, 1975. She then married Jerome Burke on Dec. 7, 1988, and he died Jan. 9, 1997.
Survivors include a son, Thomas E. (Rene Ann) Nowicki of Goshen; daughter, Alice David of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Sally Jane Woodward.
Shirlee was a 1939 graduate of South Bend Central High School. She was a member of Beulah Missionary Church, the Four Arts Club and a volunteer at the YMCA Senior's Center.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, from 4 to 8 p.m. and one hour prior to the 11 a.m. funeral service on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011, at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart. Pastor Bryon Smith of Beulah Missionary Church will officiate. Interment will follow in Adamsville Cemetery in Edwardsburg, Mich.
