Obituary

Ms. Sherri K. Westlake, 57, of Elkhart, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday, January 16, 2021 at 1:28 pm after lifelong health issues. She was born in Elkhart on September 20, 1963 and was the daughter of the late George Sheffield and Janis (Weimer) Sheffield Westlake. She married Thomas R. Westlake in Elkhart on June 7, 1985 and he preceded her in death on March 25, 2015.

Surviving are her sons Joshua and Kyle (Stevie) Westlake, both of Elkhart; granddaughter Skyler Westlake of Elkhart; sister Sue Ann (Mark) Warner of Osceola and a host of extended family and friends who loved Sherri very much. A sister, Stacy Jo Savage, also precedes Sherri in death.

Billings Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Elkhart are hosting Sherri's homegoing services with a visitation beginning at 11:00 am Thursday, January 21, 2021 followed by a funeral service there at 1:00 pm. Pastor Larry Smith of Calvary United Methodist Church will officiate and burial will follow in Prairie Street Cemetery in Elkhart. Please remember that Covid-19 restrictions are still in effect limiting only 25 persons in the building at a time, and masking and social distancing are to be observed as well.

Sherri spent her early years working as a CNA but went on to become a hairstylist for the majority of her life. While her health was a regular issue, Sherri lived life the best and fullest that she could. She was a very spiritually devout Christian lady and found great comfort in the Lord's word and through prayer. She was also very, very family oriented and just adored having any reason to surround herself with the ones she loved. She also loved to cook and bake, (which is a good thing when you like having family over all the time) and her desserts, cakes, pies, and Christmas cookies were legendary! Gentle, caring, and compassionate, Sherri helped others whenever she could because she knew it was the right thing to do and it brought her a great sense of accomplishment.

When she has some time to herself, she always loved laying out in the sun at her poolside, playing with two shih-tzu's Bailey and Lola and enjoying a cup of coffee which was always within her reach. She also loved listening to music throughout the day, especially 70's rock.

Donations made in Sherri's memory may go to the Calvary United Methodist Church, the Humane Society of Elkhart County, or the charity of one's choice. Thank you for your interest in Sherri's story!!
