ELKHART -- Sherman Leon Jacobs Sr., 65, of Jackie Lane, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday (Nov. 4, 2007) at home, apparently from a heart attack.

He was born Jan. 14, 1942, in Coffee County, Tenn., to Shurbert and Elva (Posey) Jacobs.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by two sons, Sherman Leon (Jessica) Jacobs Jr. of Elkhart and Sherman Ladd Jacobs of Goshen; two stepsons, James Shofner of Elkhart and Brian (Tammy) Shofner of Clarksville, Ky.; one daughter, Betty Jean (Lee) Fyre of Sarasota, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Arlena Hochstetler of North Port, Fla.; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; four brothers, Lyndell W. (Patsy) Jacobs and Larry Jacobs, both of Elkhart, and Terry and Eddie Jacobs, both of Manchester, Tenn.; and two sisters, Elaine (Don) Miller and Gloria (Butch) Higgins, both of Manchester.

There will be no public visitation or services. Cremation has taken place. Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jacobs worked for many years in the RV industry until arthritis in his hands required him to start a new profession. His love for cars led him to sell cars from his house for many years. He enjoyed making friends by selling cars, loved country music and thought of himself as a cowboy.
