ELKHART, Ind. – Shelba (Shelly) Jean Peffly Bickel, 84, died Sunday morning, February 26, 2023, at home in Elkhart, with her family beside her.

She was born to Edward and Elizabeth Peffly on August 5, 1938, and had an older brother, James, who all predeceased her.

She had worked for many years for a variety of companies in Elkhart from Paul Thomas Shoes to JC Penney, retiring from Office Interiors.

Shelly was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth Peffly and a 1956 graduate of Elkhart High School. She was married to Loren Robert Bickel from 1973 until his death in 2018.

With Loren, she enjoyed traveling to Mexico many times, entertaining family and friends especially during several River Float inner tube parties down the Elkhart River, and enjoying her two Miniature Schnauzers, Max 1 and Max 2. She was a member of River Oaks Church, Goshen.

Surviving are her three children from her first marriage to Larry Ehret, Jody (Pat) Prestine, Michael (Deb) Ehret, and Liz Ganger; her stepchildren, Lindsay (Steve) Rogers, Rodney (Donna) Bickel, and Kevin (Barbara) Bickel; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services celebrating Shelly's life will begin at 11:00 a.m. with visitation 1 hour prior on Saturday, March 4, 2023 at Billings Funeral Home, 812 Baldwin St., Elkhart, IN 46514. Chaplain Arnell McCoy from ProMedica Hospice will officiate.

Memorial contributions may be made to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance (OCRA) or The American Cancer Society. Shelly's family would like to thank the staff at Brentwood at Elkhart and Heartland/ProMedica Hospice for the care and kindness shown to Shelly during her time under their care.
